Thoughts

Still unsure about the direction of this story. I have some solid scenes in mind for the beginning, and I know that I want them to escape, but how do I pace this? It has to progress via Jen and Liam's terms, as they both cooperate with each other. I also want to develop the other characters, especially Samuel, as either hindrance or support. What do they have to say? What do they have to do? And what's the status quo?

A major figure will be the secret police captain, because they run the place and have an agenda for that. They also have to be kept in the dark, they're the obstacle. And what happens if they beat the captain? What does it mean to escape, and survive the city? Obviously, it's a matter of disappearing. Keeping things unknown, and covered. Jen has to die. The prisoners should win. Roy should win, in that he's able to control and dictate the story's result, in the end.

I think the plot should be simple, but embellished with history, scenes from the past between characters. Jen and Liam's history will be key, but so will Samuel's. Roy needs screen time too. Room to take the ropes and manipulate events.

Character Notes

  • Diego:
Protective, big brother type for the group. Takes charge during action, tends to bark at anyone who gives him or the group lip. Ex-policeman who was corrupt and supplied the Nightmakers with time and supplies, lied for them and occasionally dealt with potential rivals, orchestrating arrests, raids and fines.

  • Samuel:
Averse to conflict, asks questions and observes.

Fallout Expedition for Freefall Legs

Liam is looting Mass Fusion when his Pip-boy radio picks up faint signals from the upper floors. He uses climbing equipment to scale the building, until he finds the hidden alcove on the 23rd floor.

Gunners invade the premise. Liam thinks he's safe until one of them uses the jet pack on their power armor to investigate the upper floors. They engage in combat, and Liam's temporarily captured. But he uses the Freefall Legs to escape, and kick his way out.

Retelling of Fallout 4's "Fire Support"

In this tale, Liam and Hancock encounter and aid the Brotherhood of Steel during a ghoul attack, but things get drastic when the soldiers mistake Hancock for another hostile. Liam's forcibly recruited as another gun and separated from his friend. He strives to be free of the Brotherhood's leash, but quickly realizes there's nowhere to run. The Brotherhood insist that they have saved him. Hancock pulls out all the tricks in the book to try and get his friend back.

Outline

Part I

  • Scribe Haylen's log
  • Liam and Hancock scavenging Cambridge
  • Make camp and listen to distress call
  • Hancock recalls BoS memory
  • They decide to help anyway

Part II

  • Liam and Hancock scout the station
  • BoS fights off feral herd
  • Liam and Hancock engage in fire support
  • Knight Rhys shoots Hancock
  • Paladin Danse seizes Liam and BoS retreats

Part III

  • BoS review Liam's situation
  • BoS interrogate Liam and collar him
  • BoS force Liam to build barrier and fight off ferals
  • Hancock reaches Liam via hand-held radio
  • Hancock and Liam plan escape

Part IV

  • Hancock destroys barrier
  • BoS distracted by ghoul invasion
  • Hancock stealth kills Rhys and steals keys
  • BoS lose and retreat to roof
  • Final confrontation on the roof

Part V

  • Hancock and Danse exchange threats
  • BoS coerced into removing Liam's collar
  • Party stuck on the roof all night
  • Danse pleads for help next morning
  • They agree and party departs

Not entirely sure if I'm comfortable with that ending. What does it say, if Liam and Hancock ally with the Brotherhood after all of this? I think it says a lot. If the theme here is about rescue, then in the end that needs to cement the last scene. Right. We'll run with it.
